Our commitment
Peapod & Co. is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. This statement sets out the measures we take, proportionate to the size and nature of our business, to identify and address these risks.
We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking and exploitation. We expect our employees, contractors, suppliers and business partners to comply with applicable UK legislation and to maintain appropriate standards of ethical employment and business conduct.
Our organisation and supply chain
Peapod & Co. is a catering and event planning business providing food, drink, bar and event services for private, corporate, wedding and cultural events across London and the South of England.
Our work involves the planning and delivery of events, with services supported by our own team and, where required, external staffing providers, equipment and event hire companies and other specialist event suppliers and contractors.
Our supply chain includes food and drink suppliers, equipment and event hire companies, staffing providers and other specialist event suppliers and contractors. We work with a network of established suppliers and seek to develop long-term relationships with businesses whose standards of employment and business conduct align with our own.
Due diligence
We consider modern slavery risks when appointing and working with suppliers and contractors. This includes considering the nature of the supplier's business, the location and type of goods or services provided and whether the relevant sector or workforce may present increased risks of labour exploitation.
As part of our supplier onboarding process, all new suppliers are asked to provide their relevant modern slavery, anti-slavery or ethical trading policy or statement where one is available. We may also seek further information where appropriate, particularly where a supplier operates in a higher-risk sector or supply chain.
We seek to work with established and reputable suppliers and expect them to comply with applicable employment legislation and maintain appropriate employment standards. Where temporary or additional event staffing is required, we expect staffing providers to comply with applicable employment legislation and right-to-work requirements. Any concerns identified through our supplier relationships will be raised and investigated appropriately. Where necessary, we may seek professional or legal advice and take appropriate action in response to identified concerns.
Risk assessment and management
We recognise that modern slavery risks can be higher in labour-intensive sectors and parts of complex international supply chains.
Relevant risk areas for our business may include:
food production and agriculture
hospitality and catering
cleaning and facilities services
logistics and delivery
temporary event staffing
the production of goods and equipment sourced through wider supply chains.
We manage these risks through supplier selection, ongoing supplier relationships, proportionate due diligence and oversight of procurement and event staffing.
Where concerns arise, we will assess the circumstances and take appropriate action. This may include requesting further information, reviewing the supplier relationship, requiring corrective action or, where appropriate, ending the relationship.
Training and awareness
To ensure a good understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains, relevant staff involved in procurement, supplier management and event staffing will complete appropriate online modern slavery awareness training annually.
Relevant staff and contractors are expected to understand Peapod & Co.'s commitment to preventing modern slavery and to raise concerns where they identify a potential issue. Further guidance or training will be provided where appropriate, particularly where responsibilities or identified risks indicate that additional awareness would be beneficial.
Monitoring and effectiveness
We monitor our approach through our supplier relationships and the management of event staffing and procurement. As part of our review, we will consider:
whether new suppliers have provided appropriate policies or statements where requested
any modern slavery or labour exploitation concerns raised
actions taken in response to concerns
changes in our business or supply chain that may introduce new risks
whether further supplier checks, guidance or training are appropriate.
We will use the findings of this review to update our procedures and approach where necessary.
Reporting concerns
Any employee, contractor or supplier who has concerns about possible modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking or exploitation is encouraged to raise the concern with the Director. Concerns will be treated appropriately and investigated, with further action taken where necessary.
Responsibility and approval
Responsibility for overseeing Peapod & Co.'s approach to modern slavery and human trafficking sits with the Director. The Director is responsible for ensuring that appropriate measures are maintained, concerns are investigated and this statement is reviewed periodically.
Statutory position
Peapod & Co. is not currently subject to the annual reporting requirement under Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 because its annual turnover is below the £36 million statutory threshold. This statement is therefore published voluntarily and is provided as an equivalent document for procurement and due-diligence purposes. It sets out the proportionate measures Peapod & Co. takes to identify and address modern slavery and human trafficking risks within its business and supply chain.
